Oshwal Academy currently comprises four schools: Oshwal Nursery, Oshwal Primary, Oshwal Senior Academy and Oshwal Academy (Mombasa) (3-18). During the past year the Board of Governors have brought all schools together as a single academy, significantly combining the Junior and Senior Academy to form a single Senior Academy in Nairobi. The main purpose of this post is to continue developing these structures as well as lead the Senior School
At Oshwal Academy we have learners from a wide range of cultural backgrounds and we recognize that every child is unique and has the potential to succeed in life. Working with us will provide an opportunity for you to make a positive difference in the lives of others.
Our vision is: To create an inclusive learning environment of responsible global citizens who make a positive contribution to society
Oshwal Academy is seeking to appoint a strong, dynamic leader to our Senior School, which encompasses Year 7 to Year 13 and provides education for a total of 1150 students. The position is vacant for July 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter.
This position requires that you work with the Executive of the Academy, the Board of Governors and Office Bearers of the OERB to develop outstanding educational opportunities for students, helping them to become independent global citizens as they move out of secondary education and into the wider world.
The post is based in Nairobi, one of the largest cities in Africa, which is a city of contrasts, a thriving business hub that also has a game park within 40 minutes of the Central Business District. It is a cosmopolitan city that blends all cultures and people from all walks of life. Nairobi’s healthy climate is moderate with cooler temperatures than other parts of Kenya. There is little variation in the seasons due to its proximity to the equator and the seasons are mostly described as the dry or wet season. It is considered one of Africa’s fastest growing cities with a number of multinationals using it as the headquarters for their African operations.
The OERB is a non-profit organization established in 1941 by members of the Oshwal community in an effort to unite various Oshwal communities in East Africa. The founding fathers envisioned a strong and empowered Oshwal Community through the provision of community educational facilities. They were also mindful of the need to provide support and welfare to those in need within the community.
The establishment of this new post supports the Director of Education in the implementation of an ambitious change agenda recently agreed by the new Governing Body. The post also supports the Governors restructuring and succession planning objectives.
As Head of Senior School you will be expected to support the strategic direction and development of the school and the Academy, specifically:
- To build outstanding teaching and learning in both academic and pastoral spheres;
- To lead and manage the staff team to drive improvement;
- To deploy staff and resources effectively and efficiently to maximise potential;
- And to be accountable for the overall performance of the Senior School.
The successful candidate will have a solid background in school leadership. The post would suit an incumbent Head or an experienced Deputy. The post holder will be a visionary: someone who will build teams, lead change, communicate and develop the Governors Strategic Plan whilst prioritising shared understanding and responsibility amongst all school leaders within the system.
